Metal braces are the traditional braces that are widely used. Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces available today and are more comfortable than ever before. They are made of high-grade stainless steel. Traditional metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. By getting metal braces, you will have the option of colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile. Most orthodontists have a range of colors for you to choose from.

Pros: Less expensive; multicolored rubber bands

Cons: Most noticeable type of orthodontic treatment

Ceramic Braces are manufactured out of clear material and are less visible on your teeth than traditional metal braces. Ceramic braces are predominantly used on adults and older teenagers if they have cosmetic concerns about the appearance of their braces. Ceramic braces do require more attention to oral hygiene because ceramic braces are more brittle and are larger compared to metal braces. This is the reason why  ceramic braces are used more often on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.

Pros: Less noticeable than traditional metal braces, move teeth much faster than clear plastic aligners (invisible braces)

Cons: Usually more expensive than metal braces, Brackets can stain easily if they  aren’t cleaned properly.

Lingual braces are braces that are placed behind your teeth (by the tongue and palate), rather than in front like traditional braces. Lingual braces offer a great cosmetic alternative treatment option for people who want their teeth straightened, and without the braces showing.

Pros: Invisible from outside view

Cons: Can be Difficult to clean; are expensive; not suitable for severe cases of misalignment; can be more uncomfortable at first; regular adjusting takes longer and is more difficult than with traditional metal braces

Invisible Braces are made of clear plastic and are custom moulded for your teeth. The whole treatment consists of a series of 18 to 30 custom-made, mouth guard-like clear     plastic aligners. These clear plastic aligners can be removed and should be replaced every two weeks.

Pros: Almost invisible; Patients can eat and drink whatever they want

Cons: Not suitable for severe cases; only available for adults/ teens but not children; a more expensive option than traditional braces ; plastic aligners could easily get lost and are costly to replace; treatment may potentially take longer because they are plastic and not attached to your teeth
